The Pharmacist CPR course is specifically designed for pharmacists who need to refresh their CPR skills every three years, as mandated by the Pharmacy Council’s first aid policy. It will cover all the skills required to manage a life-threatening emergency.
PURPOSE
This 3-hour resuscitation course aims to refresh pharmacists’ skills, knowledge, and confidence in providing relevant first aid in emergencies. It emphasises practical skills in an interactive learning environment and meets the requirements of Appendix 4.4 of the 2024 v3 Immunisation Handbook for vaccinators.
During the session, the attendees will be instructed on correct resuscitation techniques and will practice their skills.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Pharmacists practising in a primary care, patient-facing setting in the community must be able to provide first aid. A pharmacist’s ethical and professional duty is to provide emergency first aid where necessary, in line with their professional role and expertise. At a minimum, they must maintain competence in Basic Life Support by completing a refresher course in CPR once every three years. This should be recorded as part of a continuing professional development process.
Individual pharmacists may maintain a higher level of competence than the Pharmacy Council requires. The decision should be based on self-reflection and assessment of their and their community’s requirements.
For example, a pharmacist practising next to a medical centre may only need to refresh CPR at least every three years. In contrast, a pharmacist in a remote or rural setting may want to maintain their medical emergency training at a higher level, such as an Advanced Resuscitation (ACLS) course.
The Pharmacist CPR class is a 3-hour face-to-face course that we run in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Tauranga, Palmerston North and Christchurch.
Private group courses are available across New Zealand. Contact Us to learn more about booking a private Pharmacist CPR course for your organisation.
