The Sports First Aid course is tailored for players, parents, teachers, coaches, and first aiders responsible for athlete care. It focuses on providing immediate care and managing injuries in a sports environment, ensuring that athletes receive timely assistance during critical situations. It’s an excellent team-building or coach-development activity.
PURPOSE
The Sports First Aid gives participants practical skills and knowledge to respond confidently to sports-related injuries and medical emergencies. It emphasises hands-on, scenario-based learning in a dynamic and engaging setting, simulating real-life sports injuries and other emergencies.
RECOMMENDED FOR
This course is specifically designed for anyone involved in sports—players, coaches, parents, PE teachers, and first aiders. It equips participants with essential first aid skills to handle emergencies and provide support until professional medical care is available.
This course suits those new to first aid and those refreshing their knowledge, particularly for sports-related injuries.
Important note: The Sports First Aid course does not replace Workplace First Aid-compliant training or the required biannual recertification. Please check our Workplace First Aid or Refresher First Aid courses.
This course can be delivered in a 4- 6- or 8-hour format and customised to your group’s needs.
The Sports First Aid course consists of one set 4-hour module covering Basic Life Support and management of musculoskeletal injuries and two 2-hour optional add-on components: an essential sports strapping workshop and medical emergencies.
The Sports First Aid course typically includes both theory and practical scenarios on the following topics:
The base 4-hour session will equip your team with all the fundamental knowledge and skills of Basic Life Support.
Sports strapping is a two-hour add-on that will equip you with the skills to strap and tape effectively in various sporting environments. This module introduces the principles of tape application and ankle, shoulder, and knee taping techniques. It is ideal for players, parents, and first aiders who are taping athletes.
Sports-related medical emergencies will generally cover the management of heat exhaustion, cramps, seizures and asthma attacks. This module can be tailored to meet the individual needs of clubs.
All our Basic First Aid courses are based on current ANZCOR guidelines and presented by New Zealand Resuscitation Council-certified instructors to ensure your team is equipped with the most up-to-date and effective resuscitation and first aid skills and techniques.
After successfully completing the course, attendees will receive a first aid certificate to acknowledge their achievement.
